Job: Junior Project Manager/Fundraiser, Euroclio, The Hague

Base location: The Hague, the Netherlands.


EUROCLIO – European Association of History Educators is a not‐for‐profit organisation with the mission to inspire and empower historians and educators to engage learners in innovative and responsible history and citizenship education. Since 1992, when EUROCLIO was founded with the support of the Council of Europe, EUROCLIO developed educational resources, organised continued professional development and training courses, and managed projects with and for the professional community of history, heritage and citizenship educators. 

Job Purpose 

Your job will consist of two parts.

As a Junior Project Manager, you will be supporting the staff in the coordination, implementation, execution, and completion of projects within budget and time, while remaining aligned with strategy, commitments and goals of EUROCLIO. You also need to ensure donor compliance within the project. Part of your work will be to support EUROCLIO’s work in the Balkan region.  

As a Fundraiser you will support EUROCLIO in researching and securing new funding 

opportunities, including contacting potential donors, making budgets, producing concept notes for new projects, and sending letters of inquiries.

The working language of EUROCLIO is English.  

Your Profile 

You have a genuine interest in history and more and/or education and belief in the mission of EUROCLIO. You are responsible, efficient, reliable, organised, and aware of cultural differences. With an eye for details, you are able to support the management of projects, including organizing project meetings, keeping track of the process and results, and reportage. You are able to convince donors and partners to invest time or resources in the work of EUROCLIO. You are able to adapt to new or changing situations. You are interested in the financial administration of a non‐governmental organisation. You have excellent written and oral communication skills. 

Language skills in either Russian or Bosnian/Croatian/Serbian/Montenegrin (BCSM) are considered an asset. Familiarity and direct experience of working with EUROCLIO, its projects, its members and its activities is also considered an asset.

Having an international network of history (and citizenship) practitioners is considered an asset.

You need to be willing to travel on a regular basis, including weekends. 


  • University Master degree in a relevant discipline such as history, social science, international studies or equivalent.
  • Excellent written and spoken command of English.
  • Competence in the use of ICT and social media.


  • Some professional experience in projects or organisations that deal with history education (this can be voluntary work or traineeships).
  • Familiar with project management (EU funded projects are an asset).
  • Familiar with fundraising. 

Knowledge, skills and abilities 

  • Proven skills in: planning (project) resources, time management, managing and monitoring budgets, reporting and documentation.
  • Knowledge of the history of the Western Balkans, and of the challenges such shared history brings about to history education in the region.
  • An interest in one or more of the focus areas of EUROCLIO’s work. The focus areas are:

    • Promote a transnational and multi‐perspective approach to history education.
    • Make learning history motivating, meaningful and inclusive.
    • Use new technologies to enhance history education.
    • Prevent and resolve conflicts related to history and memory.
    • Support educational reform based on democratic values.   
    • Use research to advance the teaching and learning of history.
    • Advance teaching and learning about the European Union.

  • Command of other languages, interest in donor compliance, and risk management and awareness are considered assets.

Key Challenges 

  • To support the current staff, who are relatively new to EUROCLIO, to meet the current commitments in projects that are ongoing. 
  • To secure funds that will help enable EUROCLIO to grow and be more active.
  • To run the day to day operations (office management, financial administration) in a way that is effective and compliant with rules and regulations. 

Our Offer 

EUROCLIO offers a one‐year contracts for 28.8 hours/week (0.8 fte) at our office in The Hague. If fundraising efforts are successful, there is possibility of extension. Starting date as soon as possible. 

As the position is based in the Netherlands, Dutch terms of employment will apply.

The EUROCLIO remuneration package includes social security and pension contributions (ABP pension fund), holiday allowance and 13th month. The salary links to the Dutch Civil Servants ARAR Scales. The salary will be 2.605.10 euro month gross, based on full time employment. 

Extra work days are compensated as lieu days.

Applicants must be nationals of a European Union member state or have a valid work permit for the EU, and reside or be willing to move in a short time frame to The Netherlands. 

  • The first round of interviews will be on 14 October.
  • Selected candidates will go through to a second round of interviews on 18 October. As part of this step, you will be asked to complete a challenge on fundraising.
  • The final decision will be communicated before 21 October.
